About Me
David Livingston
Product Manager · Buildertrend
Omaha, NE
I'm a Product Manager at Buildertrend focused on complex B2B workflows in construction SaaS. My strength is turning ambiguous, cross-functional problem spaces into clear product direction through customer discovery, workflow mapping, and practical delivery sequencing. I'm currently finishing my BS in Business Administration (Business Analytics & Economics) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Outside of work, I'm a husband and father of four. My faith and family are the foundation everything else is built on.

Process
How I Approach Product Work
The outputs are case studies. The inputs are these five things.
Frame the real problem
I separate symptoms from root causes — especially in complex workflows where the visible feature gap is rarely the actual problem. A messy B2B workflow usually means something upstream is broken.
Map how work actually moves
I trace work across people, tools, and records to find where context breaks down. That's usually where the highest-value opportunity is hiding — and where building the wrong thing is most expensive.
Use discovery to reduce ambiguity
Customer interviews, internal expertise, and workflow mapping turn broad problem spaces into focused bets. I don't write specs for problems I haven't validated.
Sequence toward learning
I prefer phased releases, prototypes, and POCs that validate direction before overbuilding. Smaller bets, faster feedback, and a clear path to scale when the bet pays off.
Connect decisions to business impact
Product work should tie to adoption, retention, workflow efficiency, support reduction, or migration needs — not just ship. I try to define what winning looks like before we start building.

Featured Projects
Product Manager — Connected Scope
Buildertrend · 2024 – Present
Explored a foundational workflow problem in residential construction: scope goes stale. Plans, specs, estimates, schedules, POs, selections, and change orders all reference the same work — but none of them stay connected when something changes.
Product Manager — Specifications
Buildertrend · 2023 – 2024
Moved specifications from an isolated, near-unused job-level tool to a reusable, shareable scope record — driving a 4× increase in weekly creators and 3× growth in consumers.
Product Manager — PO & Proposal Signing
Buildertrend · 2024
Rebuilt Buildertrend's purchase order and proposal signing experience on top of a platform-level SDK migration from Atalasoft to Nutrient — modernizing a legacy approval workflow and saving an estimated 188+ hours of manual effort in the process.
